Fiesta! - Carrizo Springs Week 4

September 14, 2015

This week was great! It rained on Friday which was awesome. The problem is that after it rains it gets really humid. But that's alright. Its not as hot as it was before so I can't complain.
On Thursday we had exchanges so I got to go up to Eagle Pass with Elder Evans. That was an awesome day. Elder Evans has the greatest Canadian accent I have ever heard. I also found out that we played football against each other a few times! But yea we got to speak to a ton of people in Spanish that day which was super fun. I had heard from a few missionaries how hard Elder Evans leg days were. Well that day was leg day... I still struggle walking...
Saturday was probably the best day. On Saturday Jerry got baptized! It was awesome! Only like 5 people showed up but that was perfect. He had his Dad and his 2 sisters come which he was super happy about. And he told us if people from the Branch came he probably would have gotten too nervous and not have done it. It all worked out great. And he was super happy about it.
Its been amazing to see the change that has been happening in his life as he has started to live the Gospel. And just seeing how happy he felt after being baptized just made all those days of walking around in the hot sun worth it.
Saturday night was really funny. An investigator called us and just played the national anthem then he hung up. Then he called us back and got mad saying we hung up on him. Then he said he wanted us to meet him out in Crystal City. So we go over there and it was a big fiesta for El día de independencia. And so we went and talked to him for a bit and he just tried to get us to buy Chalupas and dance with his daughter. So that was interesting.
We met with Jerry again Sunday night also. And at the end of the lesson I asked if he would say the prayer. And usually he just says he isn't comfortable doing that. But this time he just said "I'd love to" then he said the sweetest prayer I have ever heard.
The Church is true, the Gospel changes lives!
Love y'all!

Bueno - Carrizo Springs week 3

Sept 7, 2015

Well turns out it's not quite cooling down yet. It got super hot again
this week. It was a great week though.

We taught Jerry a couple of times again. He is still doing awesome,
and he is set up to be baptized this Saturday! Super excited for that.
He is super funny, we had Elder Meidell with us for a day and we
taught Jerry and the whole time he was just staring at Elder Meidell
and said he had "deep eyes" and that he was making him nervous. Then
when we left he shook Elder Meidell's hand and was like "you've got
some strange eyes guy." It was pretty awesome haha.

We had a zone meeting this week all the way up in Del Rio. Yep 2 hours
away.. It was a long day but it was super cool. Since everyone at the
Border is Spanish called they do all the District meetings and Zone
meetings in Spanish. It is awesome. Definitely learned some cool
things there.

It was a great week. We had a lot of awesome lessons. One thing I
really noticed this week is how much the Gospel will change people.
Been so many times during the mission where I meet someone and then
after they start learning and living the Gospel you just see a
complete change in their life. It really is amazing.

Have a great week. Love y'all!
